The Problem and the Solution
Traditional fiber optic expansion is often slowed down by lengthy permitting procedures, a shortage of skilled workers, and rising construction costs. In addition, conventional installation requires extensive civil engineering and splicing work, which accounts for 80 percent of total costs. With CEMS FIBER® (patent pending), BICON AG® is revolutionizing the approach to broadband expansion. The system relocates the route from deep underground to directly beneath the pavement surface: robust GRP ducts are laid flat and with minimal invasiveness directly under the paving, making extensive civil engineering work unnecessary. Pre-assembled fiber optic cables are then inserted into these prepared ducts. Since these cables are already plug-ready from the factory, time-consuming processes such as blowing in fibers or on-site splicing are eliminated entirely. Instead, the components are connected using a simple plug-in system. This combination of reduced civil engineering work and ready-to-install cabling massively lowers project costs, while accelerating expansion by up to four times.
